Sannah Kvist is a young Swedish artist and photographer who has already established herself well within the working world, collaborating with The Financial Times, The Telegraph and Esquire to name a few.

All I Own is a project form wherein which Kvist asked people to make a sculpture using all of their belongings in order to see if they fit in one single frame. She photographed the subjects with their sculptures using flash which produces strong colours and shapes throughout the project. By shooting all of the images like this, the overall aesthetic of the project appears quite similar and therefore allows the viewer to read into the small details of each image without being distracted.

In order to introduce variation, however, and stop her project from becoming boring, her subjects are posed in many different ways around their sculptures. This variation also helps us understand more about the people within the photography as we read their stance and their sculpture, where they have chosen to place things and where they have chosen to situate themselves is key to helping the viewer get to know and understand them.

The size and the individual elements of the sculptures allow the viewer make assumptions about the people within the photograph, building ideas about their personalities and qualities, for example, I would guess that the person on the left is much less materialistic than the person on the right. This, in turn, allows us to draw similarities between ourselves and the people within the frame.

Linking the images to our own experiences makes the project as whole much more effective and memorable as we identify and empathise with the different elements of the images.

This project both supports this statement as some of the people have a vast body of possessions while others have seemingly little. The project overall addresses the idea of consumerism and consumption and asks the question as to why we need all of these material possessions. Menu Skip to content Home About Contact. Search for:.
